Off the grid

Day 26

States: Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota

Sites seen: lots of beautiful scenery through mountains, spotted with an occasional forest fire.

Sorry for the delay! I had this post ready to go when we got to the campsite and it turns out we’re “off the grid” and “you should try and enjoy it” according to the lovely lady at checkin. So I’ll keep blogging but will only post if I can get service somehow.

We had a lovely evening at our campsite yesterday. We got back in time to make dinner and then Josh and I went for our run. After that, we invited our tent neighbors over for a fire and some beverages and spent the rest of the evening and night hanging out and enjoying our time.

I finally got enough layers on to be somewhat comfortable last night (this included socks and my rain jacket) and we all had an excellent night sleep. Which apparently we all needed because none of us got up until 9:00!

We broke down camp and got on the road. Today was a driving day and a pretty long one at that. It took about 9.5 hours to get to our campsite at Mt. Rushmore. But the drive was beautiful.

Montana is exactly how I pictured it in my head. Lots of open spaces, beautiful hills and mountains, and lots of green. We drove through all of the places you hear about in Montana- Big Sky, Bozeman, etc. I figure we could have spent our entire trip in this state exploring all that it has to offer.

Something we found interesting on this drive is the number of people who were hitchhiking. And they weren’t carrying any camping gear so we’re not sure what they were doing.

The town of Bozeman is super cute. It has a neat little downtown area with lots of shops and cafes and places to eat and things. Usually on our long drives, we don’t get to go through any of the towns, so it was sort of a nice change to get to drive through and see it.

I could take pictures of mountains all day.

But eventually I stop because pictures do not adequately capture the awesomeness of these mountain ranges!

Don’t worry, though. The view changed to very flat. So flat you could see the road stretch out ahead of you forever.

We arrived at our campsite safe and sound and enjoyed another cold night’s sleep! Day 27 will be spent exploring all the Black Hills have to offer

Talk to you soon-
