Day 10
Still in Texas
Sites seen: Waco, Magnolia Farms and the Silos, Austin, the Capitol Building.

We got up super early this morning to beat the crowd and the traffic to Waco. The girls went right back to sleep in the car, which was nice. We were successful and arrived before the store opened so of course we headed over to the bakery for some cupcakes. It is never too early for cupcakes!

This part of the trip was really just for me but once we got there, the girls got caught up in the fact that they recognized a lot of it from tv. I was happy they seemed to enjoy it also!

After this, we headed back to Austin to check it out. We stopped in the visitor center and a nice lady there recommended a taco place to us for lunch. Torchy’s Tacos is a quirky little place in what the locals call SoCo and it did not disappoint!

Then we headed for a tour of the capitol building. This building is amazing! It is giant- the largest of any of the state capitol buildings and almost as large as the Capitol Building in DC. I was amazed at how accessible this building was to visitors and that it is like that all the time.

Also- did you know that Austin is home to the largest urban bat colony in the world? About 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats have made their home under the Congress Street bridge.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
First it was the rock and the windshield.

Then the critters got our food (which we stupidly left out).

Then today, we got rear ended on the highway. From the sound of it all, I figured we would be leaving our car here in Texas and this made me sad.
However, our car:

Notice the teeny little hole in the bumper.
And his car:

His bumper fell off.
Then, when we got home, we found that the ants had worked their way into our dry cooler and eaten through much of the stuff. Sad.
Needless to say, we are ready to move on from Texas (though it has been lovely to see!).
Next up, Carlsbad, NM.
Talk to you soon!
