Day 17
States visited: the rest of Arizona, California
Sites seen: Harbor Cruise, Tin Fish, Gaslamp district.
San Diego means we’ve made it all the way across the country from Boston! It also marks the halfway point of our trip.

Today, both of our families got up, packed the car, and headed to San Diego. It’s about a six hour trip and what strikes me the most about the drive is how completely barren it is. Other than a few towns/cities that pop up every once in a while, the drive is mostly desert and mountains that are so dry and dusty it seems they might disappear if a good gust of wind comes along.
One of the gas stations came complete with dinosaurs 🦕 🦖

Once we crossed into California, we basically drove right on the border of the United States and Mexico. In fact, we passed through border patrol (twice) and we can see the wall from our car.

Then, suddenly we were back in the mountains, but these mountains were just giant piles of rocks! It looked like someone took a bunch of buckets of rocks and piled them up until they couldn’t anymore.

After checking into our campsite, we headed downtown for a harbor cruise. We had a little trouble parking and ended up having to sprint to get to the boat on time. But we made it!
It was a nice two hours in the harbor seeing Coronado Island, the Coronado Bridge, and the naval fleet. We saw an F18 take off and we passed by a destroyer.

After the harbor cruise, we headed to dinner at Tin Fish is the Gaslamp Quarter. We passed this memorial on the way.

It seems to be a thing out here where you go up to a counter, order your food, and then find seating. Such was the case at Tin Fish. Sometimes, I just want to sit down at the table and let other people wait on me. Tonight was not one of those nights 😜

So now we’re just waiting for our food to come out. Then it will be back to the campsite to run, shower, and get some sleep.
Tomorrow- the San Diego Zoo
Talk to you soon-
