Day 19
States: California, Nevada, Arizona (told you we liked it there), and Utah.
Sites seen: Desert, desert, desert, (always distracting mountains), Las Vegas, desert, desert, desert (still distracting mountains).

We allowed ourselves another slow morning today (this is becoming a habit) and headed out for our campsite in Utah around 9:00am. It’s another 7 1/2 hour drive (yippee!), but we lose an hour because of the time change, and it goes a little like this:
Desert, desert, desert, rest area with a good view of a mountain.

More desert, with some funny solar panel farm?

Then Las Vegas

Then some more desert and then WE DROVE THROUGH A MOUNTAIN

My ears have not enjoyed the drive. They constantly pop and it’s annoying. And whether it’s related or not, this drive made me suuuuper carsick.
Oddly enough, today is Day 19 and we have entered our 19th state on this trip. I like coincidences like that.
Our campsite today is in the town of Cedar City. At 29,000 people, it is the largest in the county. It was originally settled to establish an iron works and now is home to Southern Utah University. The town’s nickname is “the Festival State” because they host a lot of festivals, music events, and sporting events a year. They are well known for their Tony award-winning Shakespeare festival.

Now we are at the campsite and buckled down because it seems like it might rain. We’ve been pretty lucky with regards to rain. If it does rain, this will only be the second time we’ve had rain while in the tents!
Josh is fixing us a dinner for champions (hot dogs, of course) and then we are just hanging out for the evening.
Tomorrow, we’re going to hit up some more National Parks.
Talk to you soon-
Deanna
