On the road again

Day 29

States: South Dakota

Sites seen: Dinosaur Park 🦕 🦖 and Sioux Falls

Yesterday, at our resort KOA, there was a rodeo. I wasn’t so inclined to go but the girls had never been to one and really wanted to go. So we did. It was fun for them and they insisted on sitting right at the fence. This was a little funny because every time a horse made a sharp turn near them they got splattered with rodeo dirt!

We figured that last night would be our last bit of cool weather for the trip so we had another fire. Our neighbors next door popped by to say hello and it’s always fun to hear what other people are doing and where they are traveling. Their travels took them from Virginia up through Canada and they were on their return trip as well.

Ever since I was little, my mom has joked that she’s as old as the dinosaurs and would pull out a picture to prove it. It was of her and some of her siblings (I think the siblings are in the photo) and they are sitting on the tail of a dinosaur. Well we were able to find the dinosaurs (and hike up a million steps to do so) and recreate the photo with us sitting on the tail. Mom was so touched she cried happy tears!

The rest of our day was spent driving. And we’re a little sad because the awesome and distracting mountains have been replaced by the rolling plains. We listened to the Laura Ingalls Wilder book On the Shores of Silver Lake since it details how they were pioneers who moved west with the railroad. The girls found it interesting and we passed by the town where they eventually settled.

We are staying tonight in a town called Sioux Falls, so named because of the waterfalls found in their park. After dinner, we took a trip down to the park to see the falls.

Now we are back at camp getting everyone showered and doing laundry for the final time on this trip! Only four more wake ups until home!

Tomorrow we head to Chicago!

Talk to you soon-
